Inception: Established in 2019 in memory of the school’s founder, Late Mrs. Cecilia Rose Smith.

Aim: provide students a platform to express their views on promoting peace and harmony.

Vision: To create a community that inspires and embraces peace as a way of life.

Milestones & Achievements:

2019: Collaboration with UNESCO Chair for Peace and Intercultural Understanding & Malviya Centre for Peace, BHU – organised an All-India Art Competition.

2021 (COVID-19 Lockdown): to a virtual inter-school event, uniting youth to deliberate on peacebuilding.

Introduced six online platforms: Gym-Panel Discussion, Cartoonathon- Painting, A New View- Photography, Cinephilic-Smartphone Movie Making, Chants for Peace- Choral Singing, and Rekindling Peace- Creative Writing.

Post-COVID Expansion:

Added three offline flagship events – Teen Tech-Green Innovative Entrepreneurship, Epoch Elegance-Dress Designing (Fusion of Cultures), and Painting Peace-Mask making/ Face Painting.
These became highly successful, showcasing creativity, innovation, and artistic brilliance of young participants.


SMITH TECH FEST

SMITH TECH FEST, initiated in loving memory of our founders, Late Mr. William Henry Smith and Late Mrs. Cecilia Rose Smith, celebrates a legacy of empowering children with wisdom, values, and skills. Their vision is carried forward by our esteemed Principal, Dr. Anita Pauline Dey, who established the event in 2003.

Since its inception, Smith Tech Fest has served as a platform for fostering education and hands-on exploration, encouraging students to transform principles into action through innovative projects.

For the past 21 years, Smith Tech Fest has been a hub for nurturing creativity, enhancing communication skills, and promoting science literacy. It motivates students to share their discoveries with peers, fostering collaborative learning, teamwork, and critical thinking. The event provides an opportunity for students to engage deeply with the scientific method, sparking curiosity and helping them develop life skills that extend beyond academics.


ESPERANZA FIESTA

The Pauline Hope Sodhi Kids Fest – Esperanza Fiesta began in 2020 as a heartfelt tribute to Late Mrs. Pauline Hope Sodhi’s vision of nurturing young scientific minds. Over the years, this program has blossomed into a joyful tradition where children explore, experiment, and showcase their talents with creativity and confidence. What started as a small initiative has now become a beacon of inspiration, spreading the love for science and learning among young children every year.
Over the years, the fest has expanded with more events and a growing number of schools enthusiastically joining it. The inclusion of middle school events and computer coding competitions has further enriched the fest, making it even more engaging and exciting for students. As the fest grows year after year with more schools, more events, and more dreams, it continues to shine as a beacon of hope.


ANNUAL ELOCUTION

The William Henry Smith Memorial School has always believed in nurturing the art of expression, and the Annual Elocution Competition in English, Hindi, and Sanskrit stands as a proud tradition for more than four decades. Students from the Lower Nursery to Class XII participate with enthusiasm, making the event a true celebration of language and oratory.
The younger children recite with innocence and charm, while the senior students deliver their pieces with clarity, conviction, and depth of thought. Each performance reflects not only linguistic skill but also creativity and self-assurance. Recognition is given to winners in every category, yet every participant is appreciated for their effort and courage. The true essence of the event lies in encouraging students to overcome stage fear, to speak effectively, and to respect the power of words.


DADA-DADI DIWAS

Starting year of DDD- 1998
Dedicated to - International day of elderly people.
Aim- Helping elderly people to live with good health.
Success- So far 27 DDD have been organized.

Programme - The main programme is organised inside the school campus, having 3 segments.
1- To organise a free medical camp for elderly people.
2-Selection of Smart Dada and Smart Dadi.
3- Honouring active elderly citizens of our town- Varanasi.

Vision - It was the vision of respected principal ma'am to organise the event so that school including Students teachers and management should become contributor towards a social cause.

HINDI DIWAS

Hindi Gyan Pariksha is organized to develop love and interest for the Hindi language among students. It encourages them to read, write, and speak Hindi correctly while enriching their vocabulary and removing hesitation in expressing thoughts. The event builds confidence and pride in using Hindi as a medium of communication and thought.
Through this programme, children are also introduced to great Hindi writers and their works, fostering cultural awareness and literary appreciation. To make learning lively and engaging, a variety of activities are conducted. Debate competitions provide a platform to present views logically. Storytelling enhances creativity, imagination, and fluency. Hindi Quiz (multiple choice) tests knowledge of language, grammar, and literature in an enjoyable manner. Declamation contests help students develop expression, pronunciation, and confidence by presenting famous speeches.


MATHS MARATHON

The William Henry Maths Marathon, started in the year 2001 in memory of our beloved Founder Chairperson William Henry Smith, has always been more than just a competition — it is a journey of learning, discovery, and teamwork. With the aim of helping students build confidence, think critically, and enjoy the beauty of mathematics, this event has grown year after year into a tradition that everyone looks forward to. This year, 2025, was extra special as we celebrated 25 wonderful years of the Maths Marathon with an Inter-School Competition, where 16 schools from Varanasi came together, making the milestone truly memorable.


EDITH WELLS MUSICAL CANTATA

Like a gentle hymn rising with the dawn, the William Henry Smith Memorial School resonates each year with melodies of faith and devotion. The Musical Cantata becomes a sacred offering where young voices, tender yet powerful, weave together songs that celebrate spiritual values, discipline, and cultural grace. From the innocence of the youngest learners to the maturity of senior students, every note carries the fragrance of harmony and reverence, awakening a sense of inner peace and unity. Adding to this divine tradition, the Musical Cantata Programme, introduced in the academic year 2023–24, is held in cherished memory of Mrs. Edith Wells. Presented by students from Lower Nursery to Class XII, it blends music, narration, and performance into a radiant tapestry of devotion and artistry. These events not only nurture moral strength but also inspire compassion, shaping young hearts to shine as beacons of cultural and spiritual values.

The Annual Function of William Henry Smith Memorial School is one of the most awaited events of the year. It serves as a vibrant platform for students to display their talents, creativity, and achievements, while also celebrating the spirit of teamwork and togetherness.
The aim of the function is not only to entertain but also to encourage cultural appreciation, artistic expression, and overall personality development among learners.
The school, established in 1958, proudly celebrates Founder’s Day each year in memory of its founders, Mrs. Cecelia Rose Smith and Mr. William Henry Smith. On this day, students participate enthusiastically in a variety of programs presented both in English and Hindi, reflecting the rich cultural diversity of the nation. Dance, drama, music, speeches, and thematic presentations add colour and meaning to the event, making it a memorable experience for the entire school community.
The Annual Function is a true blend of academics and co-curricular excellence. It fosters holistic growth by instilling confidence, nurturing creativity, and promoting unity among students. Above all, it creates lasting memories, deepens the bond between the school and its learners, and inspires every child to take pride in being a part of the William Henry Smith Memorial School family.
