OISCA is an acronym for Organization for industrial, spiritual and cultural advancement. OISCA International serves humanity through environmentally, socially, culturally and economically sustainable development. OISCA has been promoting Green Wave by involving schools, and through schools, also parents, and communities. W. H. Smith Memorial School collaborated with OISCA International in the year 2017. The school organizes a series of programmes along with OISCA for restoration of Earth.

Visit to Kyoto, Japan (2017)
A five members delegation from W.H. Smith Memorial School comprising Akriti, Precious Conrad Chattree and Aditi Ashish, a Senior teacher Mrs. Rakhi Verma and the Principal Dr. Anita Pauline Dey visited Kyoto, Japan from 10th September 2017 to 15th September 2017.
The main objective of this project was to raise public awareness about environment both in Varanasi and Kyoto through children and their involvement in activities to promote environment conservation focusing on cleaning River Ganga.
They participated in exchange activities which included an environmental study exchange at Takakura Elementary School and an observational study of Kamogawa river both based on Kyoto’s environmental issues and Kamogawa projects.

VISIT OF DELEGATES FROM KODANSHA PUBLICATION & OISCA INTERNATIONAL JAPAN (DATE: 20/01/2018) W. H. Smith Memorial school proudly welcomed the delegates from Kodansha Publications (Ms. Mariko Shinjo, author of Mottainai Grandma Books, Mr. Koga and some journalists from Japanese News channel) and OISCA International (Mr. Nagaishi Secretary General, Mr. Watanabe Vice President and some other members. Mrs. Ritu Prasad, Director North India OISCA International, Mr. Ranjeet Singh Chauhan and PDG Dr. V. N. Singh, President OISCA International were also welcomed in Cecilia Rose Hall where 200 students of classes 6&7 were sitting.

RAIN WATER HARVESTING PROJECT DATE: 30 OCTOBER 2021 On 30th October 2021,
Rain Water Harvesting Project was inaugurated by Prof. Chandana Halder (Ex Dean Dept. of Zoology, B.H.U.) along with Principal Dr. Anita Pauline Dey and Administrative officer, Mrs. Pratyasha Mukherjee. Rain Water Harvesting in the school is a simple rooftop method in which the tank holds the capacity of water up to 25,000 liters. The tank is divided into 2 compartments with 75% and 25% water capacity respectively. There is 120 feet deep open boring through which water will go into the ground water table. 75% water capacity tank will be used for collection of rain water which will finally go into the 25% water capacity tank. The floor of this tank is made of concrete but 12 feet thick walls are made of bricks so that more water is absorbed and replenish the underground water table.

TREE PLANTATION DRIVE-

Tree plantation drive is a ongoing project of our school. Under OISCA our school has been doing tree plantation in a number of places like Vasanta College, Rajghat, Cantonment, Varanasi in 2017. Plantation Drive on October 02, 2018 in order to mark the 150th birth anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi. Recently we organised a tree plantaion in St. Paul’s Church, Sigra, Varanasi on 15th August, 2025

VERTICAL FARMING IN THE SCHOOL PREMISES
On the occasion of the International Day of Biological Diversity, a significant initiative was undertaken by the students of Class 11A (Biology stream), guided and inspired by our respected Principal, Dr. Anita Pauline Dey. The project titled “Vertical Farming” was introduced with the aim of utilizing waste and discarded materials from the school campus to create a charming green exterior, thereby promoting biodiversity and sustainability within the school environment.

Generation Global, formerly known as Face to Faith, is the Tony Blair Faith Foundation’s international school programme, established in 2009. Its main aim is to empower young people (aged 13–17) with the knowledge, skills, and mindset required to become open-minded, responsible, and active global citizens. The vision of the organisation is to foster intercultural dialogue, empathy, and understanding across boundaries, thereby preparing future leaders to embrace diversity and work together for peace.
Our school has been proudly affiliated with Generation Global since 2015 and has actively engaged in various meaningful initiatives.
In 2016, we participated in the Global Peace Day Competition in collaboration with Cooperation Ireland and received an achievement award. Our principal- Dr. Anita Pauline Dey was also honoured with the Best Educator Award for her commitment to incorporating dialogue into learning communities and encouraging students to grow as global citizens.

Through this platform, our students have connected with peers across the globe, including Gymnasium and Odessa (Ukraine), Zelenodolsk Secondary School (Ukraine), Ginsburg High School (Israel), and Silver Oaks School and College (Pakistan). They have engaged in vibrant discussions on critical topics such as Culture, Beliefs and Values, Climate Change, Rights of Girls and Women, Wealth and Poverty, and more.
Generation Global continues to inspire our learners to think globally, act responsibly, and build bridges of peace across nations.

The International Convention on Students’ Quality Control Circle is a global platform where students’ teams present their innovative solutions and quality improvement projects. It promotes teamwork, creativity, and problem-solving while giving international exposure to young minds. Its aim is to educate, train and develop the personality of students and make them contributors to the organisation’s goals. It was started with a vision to Provide Total Quality Environment to the Students. Our school ahs been associated with ICSQCC since a number of years.

The Association of Schools for the Indian School Certificate (ASISC) was established in 1957 and has since been a significant organization for schools affiliated with the Council for the Indian School Certificate Examinations (CISCE). ASISC was established with a vision to cultivate a dynamic learning environment, encourage academic excellence, and empower students to contribute to a just and pluralistic society. Our school has been affiliated with ASISC since early 1990s.

Reconnecting With Your Culture (RWYC)

In 2020 the International pedagogical project “Reconnecting with your Culture” promoted by the EdA International Research Center Esempi di Architettura and UNESCO University and Heritage was born. The project pursues the “Quality education” objectives of the UN 2030 Agenda.
The main aims of RWYC are to bring young generations closer to the values and content of local cultures, to strengthen local identities, knowledge of local traditions and to build strong awareness and knowledge of their cultural heritage.
On 2nd October 2021, W. H. Smith Memorial School signed a Memorandum of Understanding with RWYC “Reconnecting with your Culture” with an objective to promote global understanding, preserving cultural heritage and becoming active partners in promoting peace and harmony.

Major programs under RWYC-
The RWYC America recognized the work that the women do in their environment and communities in their areas of action and prepared a memoir to publish on March 8, 2022 (Women's Day). Our Principal Dr. Anita Pauline Dey was recognized in the “Top 20 most influential women in the world” by RWYC.

RWYC International painting exhibition- Machida Shi, Tokyo, Japan-
“Art Unites People”, with this aim, First International Exhibition of young Ambassadors of culture was organised on December 18, 2021 at the Gallery of the Machida Museum of Graphic Arts in Machida – Shi, Tokyo, Japan. The Exhibition entitled “Angels drawing a picture” was coordinated by the Japanese artist and professor Shini – Chi – Yano and the Technical staff of the Children’s Art Network Association. The paintings of three students of W.H.Smith Memorial School were exhibited in this exhibition: The 3 International Young Artists are: Kamakhya Vishwakarma Class 9 Shazeena Mariyam Class 10 Nanya Vishwakarma Class 11.

STUDENTS’ INTERACTION- INDIA AND JAPAN AT W.H. SMITH MEMORIAL SCHOOL, VARANASI, INDIA
An online cultural exchange programme was organized between ‘Kugayama After School, Tokyo, Japan’ and W.H Smith Memorial School, Varanasi from 12:00noon to 1:00 p.m. (IST) on 29th January 2024(Monday). It was an hour session. The mode of communication was English and Japanese. A Google translator was used in this meeting to remove the language barrier and ease out the communication properly and efficiently to the other group.
Other programs include- PAINTING EVENT ON TRADITIONAL MASKS OF INDIA: A CELEBRATION OF CULTURE AND DIVERSITY and heritage walks.
