Let’s celebrate the glory of free India and uphold the pride and honour of being an Indian, with this thought W.H. Smith Memorial School celebrated 75th Anniversary of India’s Independence on 15th August 2022 as Azadi ka Amrit Mahotsava (Festival of Independence). It is a government initiative programme to celebrate the glorious history of its people, culture and achievements. This is afestival of awakening of the nation, festival of fulfilling the dreams of good governance and the festival of global peace and development. This festival i.e Azadi ka Amrit Mahotsav was celebrated in the school with great patriotic fervour and zeal from 11th to 17th of August 2022.  A series of events such as Essay Writing Competition, Story Writing Competition, Rallies(Prabhat Feri), Slogan Writing Competition, Painting Competition was organized for classes 5 to 12.On 15th August, the sense of happiness and pride could be clearly seen on the faces of students and entire the entire school when the National Flag of India was hoisted by the Principal Dr.Anita Pauline Dey, Manager Mr.Pradip kr Dey, Administrative officer Mrs.Pratyasha Mary Mukherjee and Rotary members and National Anthem was sung.This entailed a short celebration including Patriotic group song by primary and middle school students, speech by School Captain Yukti Upadhyay highlighting about how we all can unitedly stand together, contribute together and believe in the development of our country.The Principal,  Dr.Anita Pauline Dey gave a very motivational speech addressing the students emphasising on the significance and symbolic meaning of three colours of Indian flag- Saffron, white and greenand told the students  to imbibe the values of courage, peace, truth, non-violence, in their lives. A series of competitive programmes are organized every year in which students from classes 5 to 12 of all the four houses (Blue, Green, Red and Yellow) participate. This year also many students participated with full zeal and enthusiasm and showcased an excellent program in front of the judges , teachers and students. This yearthe celebration included the following programmes-1.Recitation of Patriotic Poem of Renowned Poets of Hindi Language 2. Performance of Patriotic Song with Dance (Songs and dances were from East, West, North and South India) 3. A Short Skit on Unsung/ Unknown Freedom Fighter of India who sacrificed their lives for the Independence of India (Freedom fighters belonged to East, West, North and South India).
