W. H. Smith Memorial School, Varanasi hosted the preliminary round of the Frank Anthony Memorial All-India Competition 2023 Category II on 10th July 2023. The Headmistress accorded a cordial welcome to the judges of the competition, Prof. Manoj Mishra, Dr. Supriya Singh and Mrs. Shalini Deva. A total of seven teams engaged in an impressive exchange of words on the topic- Facebook friends have become more real than real friends. Each school comprised two speakers , where one supported the motion and the other opposed. All the participants presented their cases eloquently with a perfect argumentative fervour . The highlight of the event was the rebuttal session , as a volley of questions were answered confidently by both the sides , inviting counter questions which were aptly answered by witty and vivacious speakers . The participants were full of energy and used various skills like overstatement, rhetoric, irony etc. to convince the audience. The session was a kaleidoscope of opinions , thoughts , ideas and perspectives that definitely enhanced the knowledge and understanding of the topic among students . The judges appreciated the sincere efforts of the students and were touched with the cordial hospitality of the host school . Towards the close of this wonderful session, the students were adjudged as Best Speaker, 1st Runner-up Speaker, Winning School Team and 1st Runner-up Team.

Smith Memorial School organised PRIZE DISTRIBUTION CEREMONY OF CONCORDIA on 6th August 2022 (Saturday). Prof. Rana P. B. Singh, President RWYC Asia graced this occasion as the Chief Guest. CONCORDIA is a flagship programme of the school with a mission to sensitize students to learn from Hiroshima and Nagasaki Bombing with a motto ‘Never Again Such a Tragedy’ and imbibe in them the values of respect, reconciliation, solidarity and live in harmony and become children for peace. Concordia provides a platform to the students to think and present their views on the relevant issues related to peaceful and sustainable future through various mediums. Since, two decades the school is organising this event to ensure a better, safer planet for the children by increasing their awareness towards the need to reject war, violence and instead embrace harmony and peace. Every year, a series of events are organised at a 'National' level in the school. This year also six events were organised which are as follows: 1. THOUGHT GYM- Live Panel Discussion 2. CINEPHILIC- Smartphone Movie Making 3. CARTOONATHON- Cartoon Drawing Competition 4. A NEW VIEW- Using photography to explore social issues 5. MIC DROP-RAP BATTLE- Solo Rap Singing 6. REKINDLING PEACE- Creative Writing Competition This year, 354 participants from 34 different schools across India participated. The events were conducted in three streams- stream1 for classes 5 and 6, stream 2 for classes 7 and 8 and stream 3 for classes 9 to 12. The winners were awarded with certificates and a plant as a gift.

Three senior citizens of Varanasi were honoured with Rudraksha Mala, Angawastram, Flower pot and Citation.
Mr. A. P.Tiwari was selected as the Smart Dada and the Mrs. Rama Tiwari was selected as the Smart Dadi out of 100 entries received and registered. They were given hampers.
The programme was compered by Ms. Akansha Singh, Ms. Aashna Kumari & Ms. Aditi Tiwari.
A medical camp was also organised on this day where doctors for Eye, Urology, Skin, ENT, Orthopedic, Cardiology, Diabetes, Gynecology, Dentistry and general physicians were present. Doctors were given gifts and certificates.
On this occasion all the teachers, Rotract members, volunteers, class monitors were also present.

Maths Marathon was organized under the able guidance of the Principal Dr. Anita Pauline Dey, on 7th May 2022 in Cecilia Rose Smith Hall of W. H. Smith Memorial School. The program began at 8:00 am. The esteemed guest for the programme was Prof. H.S. Asthana and the Guest of Honour was Dr. Sunita Asthana. The guests were welcomed by our administrative officer Mrs. Pratyasha Mary Mukherjee. The screening round of Maths Marathon was conducted on 25th April 2022 in which all the students from class 4 to class 12 participated. Out of them 32 students were shortlisted. Children showcased their mathematical and analytical skills. The mission of Maths Marathon is to help the children overcome their fear of numbers. The Chief Guest appreciated the endeavor of the school management to inculcate the skills of calculation, mental math and an opportunity to excel. He gave a motivational speech in which he highlighted the importance of such competitions and said that not only did this enhance the skills of students but also provided a platform to showcase their talents in the field of mental mathematics thereby bringing positive change in their learning process. The participants and the audience both were equally participative and enjoyed the programme. Winners were applauded for their hard work. Prizes were distributed by the Chief Guest Prof. H.S. Asthana and Dr. Sunita Asthana. The programme was compeered by Mrs. Neha Khanna and Quiz Master Ashutosh Singh, Sarthak Pandey and Vaibhav Singh. Headmistress Mrs. Sangeeta Nayak also appreciated the efforts of children. The team of teachers who were involved with the planning and organizing and conduction of this programme were: Mr. Ajay Pandey, Mrs. Smriti Agrawal, Mr. R. N.
